Speaking today at a Television Critics Association press tour, ABC entertainment president Channing Dungey confirmed that talks are ongoing between ABC and Lucasfilm about a Star Wars television show.
Dungey said:
As a fan, I would absolutely love to say yes. We have had conversations, and we will continue to have conversations with Lucasfilm. It would be wonderful to extend the franchise.
A new era of tech events has begun
We’re back in New York this November for the 4th edition of our growth-focused technology event.
Lucasfilm had a planned television series, Star Wars Underworld, but the idea had sort of been back-burnered over the years. After the Disney acquisition, it seemed to be dead in the water. The recent revelation that there are on-going talks could be a huge boon for for both ABC and the Star Wars franchise, especially after the success of the first post-acquisition film: ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens.’
Dungey is quick to point out, however, that these talks, while ongoing, are definitely in the early stages. There’s no timeline for when this might happen, and as we’ve seen in the past, the talks could fizzle out completely. That said, it’s a first step toward a television series that franchise fans have been waiting decades for; fingers crossed.
